Huawei Mate X2 foldable smartphone launched; Price, Specs, Availability
Huawei just dropped its latest foldable smartphone in China. The Huawei Mate X2 boasts an inward folding design and has a pretty noticeable camera bump, courtesy of its Periscope lens. However unlike its predecessor, the Mate X2 has a second screen on the outside that you can use when it is shut, and the screen now folds inwards instead of the other way around.
The device’s OLED screen is 8 inches tall and supports up to 90Hz refresh rate, while the external screen is 6.45 inches and also supports up to 90Hz refresh rate. However the interiors display supports a touch sampling rate of only 180Hz compared to its external counterpart that has a touch sampling rate of 240Hz.

The Huawei Mate X2 is powered by the Kirin 9000 5G SoC, which is based on the 5nm fabrication process. The eight-core chipset is aided by the Mali-G78 GPU and a dual-core neural processing unit. It gets only a single RAM variant with 8GB onboard, but has 256GB and 512GB storage options, along with expandable memory compatibility.
The primary folding display is 8 inches in size, and claims DCI-P3 full colour gamut coverage. The flexible OLED panel has 90Hz refresh rate, and resolution of 2480 x 2200 pixels at a square-ish 8:7.1 aspect ratio. On the outside, the secondary display features an OLED panel as well, with screen resolution of 2700 x 1160 pixels and 90Hz refresh rate.

The Huawei Mate X2 weighs 295 grams, and has a folded width of 14.7mm. Unfolded, the Mate X2 is 8.2mm thin. To the rear, the Huawei Mate X2 features a Leica certified quad camera setup. This includes a 50MP primary unit with 1/1.128-inch sensor size, f/1.9 aperture and OIS, a 16MP ultra-wide camera with f/2.2 lens, a 12MP telephoto camera with f/2.4 lens, 3x optical zoom and OIS, and an 8MP camera with 10x periscopic optical zoom, f/4.4 aperture and OIS support as well.
The camera app on the Mate X2 will also support 20x hybrid zoom, and 100x digital zoom. To the front, the Mate X2 features a 16MP camera with f/2.2 aperture and full HD video recording. The smartphone is powered by a 4,500mAh battery that supports up to 55W fast charging. In terms of connectivity, the Mate X2 comes with support for Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, 5G and NFC. It also features a fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication.
The smartphone runs on Android 10-based custom interface EMUI 11.0, with Huawei’s own apps store pre-loaded as the only choice.
Huawei Mate X2 price and availability
Huawei Mate X2 is quite expensive, which seems to be the reality for foldable phones at the moment. The Huawei Mate X2 will come in two storage variants – 256GB and 512GB. The former has been priced at CNY 17,999 (approx QAR 10,000), while the 512GB storage version will cost CNY 18,999 (approx QAR 10,800). In terms of availability, the smartphone will go on sale in China later this month, from February 25. At the time of launch, Huawei has not revealed information about the availability of the Mate X2 in other countries.
