OPPO was one of the first smartphone OEMs to showcase its under-display camera technology back in 2019. But while other manufacturers have already brought their under-display camera solution to the market, OPPO is yet to launch a phone with an under-display selfie camera. That might change soon, as OPPO’s new third-gen solution looks more promising.
The manufacturer hasn't yet implemented any form of an under-display camera in a commercially available product yet, suggesting that it believes it's not ready yet for mass market consumption.

As smartphone manufacturers push to reduce all borders and interruptions on their phone displays, we're going to see more under-display cameras appear over the next couple of years.
This includes inconsistent display quality in the screen area right above the under display sensor and poor image quality due to the obstruction of the camera by the display panel. By tackling these known issues of the camera tech, the company will be able to offer an upgraded under screen camera solution that promises to bring the full screen experience on smartphones to the next level.

The company showcased the under screen camera technology in a new prototype device. This device arrived with several new innovations in structure design and AI algorithms. Notable breakthroughs include innovative pixel geometry, with the new solution shrinking the size of each pixel without decreasing the number of pixels to ensure 400ppi density even in the camera region. Furthermore, Oppo replaced the traditional screen wiring with an innovative transparent wiring material.
This newer material uses a manufacturing process that reduces its wiring width by 50 percent, allowing for finer display quality. Along with these innovations, it also arrives with improved control of screen accuracy, color, and brightness along with improved reliability and lifespan.
At the moment, OPPO hasn’t shared any plans of bringing its next-gen under-display camera to a production smartphone. But since the new solution successfully solves some of the key issues faced in the previous iterations, the company might include it on a production smartphone soon. We’ll make sure to let you know as soon as that happens.
