LG and Oppo have both teased or demonstrated smartphones with rollable displays in recent months, but it looks like another major player could be entering the market.
Samsung will develop its first rollable and slidable displays this year. This information comes from Samsung Display senior vice president Kwon-Young Choi during earnings call (via The Elec).
The executive didn’t confirm whether these screens would indeed be for smartphones, but Samsung filed a patent back in 2019 for a rollable phone that resembles Oppo and LG’s efforts. See the render by LetsGoDigital in the main image above.
On the other hand, Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 foldable smartphones this year. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 will have a clamshell design and will succeed the Z Flip phone which was announced last year. While the Z Fold 3 will launch as a successor variant of Z Fold 2. It is also said to come with much-loved Stylus Pen support and 5nm SDM 888 SoC. The device will also have an under-display front camera technology.
