Apple is expected to introduce their next generation of Apple Silicon called the M2 this year, and it will to show up in multiple devices. This includes a new MacBook Air, Mac mini, 13-inch MacBook Pro and 24-inch iMac. Apple is also expected to announce a higher-end version of M2 that will power a refreshed Mac Pro, and a new Mac mini in 2023.

According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman in his latest issue of Power On, Apple is expected to offer 5 variants of the M2 Apple Silicon, including:

  • M2: 8 CPU cores and nine or 10 graphics cores
  • M2 Pro: 12 CPU cores and 16 graphics cores
  • M2 Max: 12 CPU cores and 32 graphics cores

  • M2 Extreme: 48 CPU cores and 96 or 128 graphics cores

The M2 Extreme is expected to debut with the Mac Pro, which Apple teased at the end of their recent “Peek Performance” event. Before its launch, the lower-variants of the M2 are expected to show up in an updated MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro and 24-inch iMac and more.

Sources also indicate that Apple is working on the successor to the Pro Display XDR, featuring an updated 7K resolution and an A-series chip for Center Stage and on-device “Hey Siri’ processing.

The Intel-based Mac mini is also expected to get completely replaced with a design powered by a new M2 chip. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects the Mac Mini to be launched in 2023, and he also expects the design to remain the same.
